Summary

The alternate structural system purposed in this report is a 6.5-inch-thick two-way post-tensioned slab for a majority of the superstructure. The benefits of a post-tensioned floor system consider the current structural system’s possible inefficiencies in that it allows for larger spans between columns along with the possibility of cantilevered slab edges. An alternate lateral system is also included in this report in response to the current lateral force resisting system consisting of three full-building-height shear walls. The alternate system involves the interaction between the post-tensioned slab and columns in a moment resisting frame system.
